>Kathe Johnson

Musical Director

Kathe Johnson first worked with Chelsea Area Players last summer, when she accompanied the rehearsals and played keyboards in the fabulous “Pirates of Penzance” which swashbuckled its way into the musical hearts of Chelsea audiences. Her degrees in English and Choral Education came in handy, and her years studying theatre at Cornell suggest she can’t stop working on plays quite yet. She has sung Molly in “Threepenny Opera” and Marian in “The Tale of Robin and Marian”, and she even sang Greek odes, in  Greek yet, as a member of the Chorus in “The Bacchae.”

Kathe has also played such fantastic roles as  Rosalind in “As You Like It” and Regan in “King Lear” as well as The Jewish Wife in the play of the same name.  Other parts include Ginger in “Time Out for Guess Who” and Juliette in “Thieves’ Carnival.”  Her many other musical credits include being the Musical Director of “Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris” for Ann Arbor Civic Theater, Director of an enlightening production of “Thomas Edison” at Forsythe School in Ann Arbor, and playing cello and/or piano for many musicals from Tecumseh to Ann Arbor!
